RSF commissioned a theatrical work for actor and Cygnus from Paul Griffiths and his composer collaborator Trevor Bača. The work was finished in the spring of 2024 and is being workshopped on October 10, to establish rehearsal techniques and workflows and pave the way toward a premiere in 2025 or 2026.

The same creative team from Cygnus’ 2012 show, Sounding Beckett, is in place – Joy Zinoman, Director, Solomon Heile-Selassie, Producer, Debra Booth, stage designer; Michael Giannitti, lighting designer. In addition, the brilliant, one of a kind Nancy Robinette will play Owl.

Today, Cygnus recorded the first 6 “scenes”, the first step in a process where the musicians and actor will meet, get to know one another and interact.

Music starts.

After a short while, OWL suddenly starts to speak and, at the same time, stands up. Spotlight on OWL from this first instant of speech and movement. Music stops at the same time. OWL does not yet notice or address either the audience or the other musicians.

—–When the time comes….

Music starts again as OWL moves away from the musicians’ area, still not noticing the
audience, or anything else.

Pause.

—–When the time comes I’ll be there.
—–You know that.
—–I’ll not let you down.
—–Never have, never will.

When the time comes I’ll be there. You know that.
I’ll not let you down.
Never have, never will.

Pause.

—– Come on, what do I have to say all this for?
—–You know me.
—–All that time we had…
—–When you would call me your Owl.

Pause.
