BIO
Native New Yorker Daniel Conant enjoys a variety of musical pursuits. At age 12 he began studying Hindustani classical music with Bina Kalavant and Ustad Kadar Khan, and his work with the Kalavant Center for Music and Dance brought him to stages across the US and India. Conant turned his attention to composition and the classical guitar upon meeting William Anderson at Sarah Lawrence College.
Conant’s playing has been heard at venues such as Weil Hall, Tenri Cultural Institute, and the Morgan Library & Museum. He frequently appears with Sheer Pluck Guitar Orchestra and Cygnus Ensemble. In 2017 he played first guitar in Anderson’s Unexpected Reunion, as well as in his own small ensemble arrangement of Ariel Ramierez’ Missa Criolla. Last September, he was invited to give a solo recital in Xalapa, Veracruz at the Festival Internacional Camarata 21 (FIC21), under the artistic direction of composer Emil Awad.
Conant studies with Anderson and with lutenist Arash Noori. He eagerly awaits the opportunity to begin graduate work at the Eastman School of Music in the Fall.
